Intended Purpose
The purpose of the Ovolution app is to enable women to track their fertility cycle digitally and to determine when they are most likely to be fertile and when they are not, with a view to becoming pregnant. The app is not intended for contraception.
The app uses the Sensiplan NFP method, a symptothermal method that combines two fertility indicators to determine the fertile and infertile days in a woman’s cycle.
Contraindications
The Ovolution app should not be used by:
- Women with serious systemic illnesses that permanently affect body temperature
- As a method of contraception
Safety information
Please read the instructions for use carefully before using the ovolution app.
Warnings
- This app is not a substitute for medical advice. If you have any health concerns, menstrual irregularities or questions about contraception, please consult your doctor or a certified NFP counsellor.
- The NFP method does not protect against sexually transmitted infections. Barrier methods (e.g. condoms) are required for prevention.
- Data entry errors can distort the analysis. Record your physical signs daily and accurately, following the instructions in the app.
- If you become pregnant or suspect you are pregnant whilst using the app, consult your doctor immediately.
- Temperature readings may be affected by external factors (e.g. alcohol, illness, lack of sleep, changes in time zones, alarm clock adjustments). Such factors must be recorded in accordance with the method.
Data Protection
Your health data is encrypted and processed in accordance with the GDPR. Further information can be found in the privacy policy at:

Main features of the app
The app consists of four main sections, which can be accessed via the bottom navigation bar:
Cycle View
The Cycle View provides a central overview of your current cycle status.
Elements of the Cycle View:
-
Pie chart: Visualises the entire cycle in phases (menstruation, follicular phase, ovulation, luteal phase). The current day is highlighted. Tap a day on the chart to select it.
-
Fertility indicator: Shows whether the selected day has been classified as fertile, infertile or not yet evaluable.
-
NFP worksheet: A scrollable NFP worksheet providing a visual representation of all recorded data, including basal body temperatures, cervical mucus analysis and other symbols. A legend can be accessed below the NFP worksheet.
The NFP worksheet can be exported and shared. To do this, select the relevant cycle, then click on the ‘…’ above the NFP worksheet and select ‘Share cycle sheet’. When exporting, you can choose the format (PNG/PDF). The latter also includes a more detailed report
▎ Note: The exported charts can be used for discussion with an NFP counsellor or your doctor._
**Cycle navigation:** Use the arrow keys to switch between previous cycles. The ‘Today’ button takes you back to the current day.
- Export chart: Use the export icon to save and share the chart as a PNG or PDF.
Calendar view
The calendar view displays a monthly calendar with cycle phases marked in colour.
- Coloured markers indicate menstruation, fertile and infertile phases.
- Dotted frames indicate predicted future periods.
- Small dots on a day indicate that tracking data is available.
- Tap a day to view the recorded data or enter new data.
Statistics
The statistics view gives you an overview of your cycles to date:
- Number of cycles analysed
- Average cycle length
- Average period duration
- Average luteal phase
- Earliest rise in temperature
- Total days recorded
Individual analysis per cycle:
Horizontal bar charts show the length of each phase of the cycle, as well as the distribution of fertile and infertile days.
Learning
The learning section contains comprehensive educational material on the NFP method and the female cycle:
- Tutorials: Step-by-step guides to taking your temperature and observing cervical mucus
- NFP basics: Articles on the basic principles of the method
- NFP Rules: Explanation of the evaluation rules (double-check principle, start and end of fertility)
- Physical Signs: Information on symptoms associated with the cycle
- Trying for a baby: Articles to support targeted conception
- Menstrual cycle disorders: Information on irregular cycles, PCOS, endometriosis and more
- Information on period pain and PMS
Recording daily data (tracking dialogue)
Tap on any day in the cycle circle, on the NFP worksheet or in the calendar, then select the pen icon at the bottom of the menu to open the tracking dialogue for that day.
When entering data, the Sensiplan rules must be followed to ensure correct analysis. You can find information on this in the app’s learning section, in the relevant literature or by consulting a certified Sensiplan counsellor.
Basal Body Temperature
- Tap the temperature field.
- Enter the measured value (in °C or °F, depending on your settings).
- Enter the time of the measurement.
- If the measurement was disrupted (e.g. due to interrupted sleep or illness), mark the measurement as disrupted.
▎Measurement tip: Take your temperature daily before getting out of bed, at the same time, after at least 3 hours of uninterrupted sleep. Use a suitable basal thermometer that measures to an accuracy of 1/100 of a degree.
Supported measurement sites: oral, vaginal, rectal (set under Profile → Settings)
Cervical mucus
Record daily observations alongside your basal body temperature as a second indicator for determining ovulation. This can be either cervical mucus, which is divided into three categories:
- Feeling: dry, moist, wet, slippery
- Appearance: colour and consistency (e.g. whitish, creamy, glassy, stringy)
- Special features: interfering factors, infections, bleeding and other abnormalities
or, alternatively, observation of the cervix.
Cervix
Record the position, degree of dilation and consistency of the cervix:
- Position: low, mid, high
- Dilation: closed, slightly open, open
- Consistency: firm, medium, soft
Period
The period marks the start of the next cycle.
- Menstrual flow: light, moderate, heavy
- Colour (not relevant to assessment): light brown/brown, brown-red, light red
- Products used (not relevant to assessment)
Sexual intercourse and libido
- Unprotected sexual intercourse
- Protected sexual intercourse (condom)
- Libido / sexual desire (not relevant for analysis)
Optional tracking categories
In addition, further observations can be recorded according to the categories, although these are not relevant for the Sensiplan evaluation. The exception to this is breast and lower abdominal pain, which are recorded under ‘Other physical signs’ in accordance with the Sensiplan rules in the NFP worksheet.
The remaining observations are displayed in a separate section below the NFP worksheet to keep them distinct from the NFP worksheet.
Saving and Deleting
- Click ‘Save’ to save the entries for the day.
- Click ‘Delete’ to remove all data for the selected day.
Pregnancy Detection
The app automatically detects a possible pregnancy if your temperature remains in the high phase for 18 days. This is provided that the data has been entered correctly.
- A notification dialogue box appears.
- The cycle can be marked as a pregnancy cycle. The weeks of pregnancy are then displayed in the NFP worksheet, calculated from the date of ovulation.
- The app displays the estimated due date.
- You can find relevant information in the learning section.
▎ Important: A display in the app is no substitute for confirmation by a doctor.
